More reaction to Specter; Articles for Tuesday

Republican National Committee Chairman Michael Steele just released a statement on Arlen Specter’s decision to switch to the Democratic Party: “Some in the Republican Party are happy about this. I am not. Let’s be honest-Senator Specter didn’t leave the GOP based on principles of any kind. He left to further his personal political interests because he knew that he was going to lose a Republican primary due to his left-wing voting record. Republicans look forward to beating Sen. Specter in 2010, assuming the Democrats don’t do it first.” GOP Representative John Cornyn of Texas said, “Senator Specter’s decision today represents the height of political self-preservation.” Ouch.

The Politics of Liberal Amnesia   Bret Stephens writes in the Wall Street Journal about how some Democrats seem to be forgetting they also had a hand in approving enhanced interrogation methods, like waterboarding. Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi was one of four Congress members to be briefed by the CIA on interrogation methods. Pelosi now says she had no idea waterboarding would actually be used. Former Director of Central Intelligence said that Pelosi claiming she didn’t know about waterboarding or understand it left him “slack-jawed”. Sooner or later, the truth is going to come out and if Pelosi is revealed to have lied, there will be heavy consequences.

100 Days- A success, but…   Rich Lowry is the editor of the National Review and today writes about what is going to happen to President Obama after he has finished his first 100 days. There has certainly been plenty of change, as promised, but will any of it lead to results? Lowry investigates what will come of the economy, Iran, Pakistan and even brings up a similarity between President Obama and President George W. Bush.

100 Days, 100 Mistakes   Although it isn’t actually 100 mistakes from President Obama, because he couldn’t possibly make that many, the New York Post details some of the mess-ups and flubs of the Obama administration, showing everyone that not even President Obama can be perfect. Funny, quick read.
